Food & Provisioning on a BVI Charter

Before you embark on your adventure you need to know what the food situation is. Provisioning is a part of the charter, and often a hefty cost. With current prices, food for 5 people for a week may exceed $1500. Who is paying for the provisions? Who is cooking?

With current prices, food for 5 people for a week may exceed $1,500. Who is paying for the provisions? Who is cooking? These are questions that need to be answered before you leave the dock.

Provisioning Options

Most charter companies offer provisioning services where they stock the boat with food and drinks before you arrive. This is convenient but expensive. Alternatively, you can provision yourself at the local supermarkets in Road Town, Tortola.

Local Supermarkets

  • Bobby's Marketplace in Road Town is the largest supermarket in Tortola
  • Riteway Food Markets has multiple locations
  • Rite Way in Road Town is well-stocked

Prices in the BVI are higher than in the US or Europe due to import costs. Budget accordingly.

Eating Out

The BVI has excellent restaurants and beach bars. Budget $30โ€“$60 per person per meal when eating out. Some famous spots include: - Soggy Dollar Bar on White Bay, Jost Van Dyke - Foxy's on Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke - The Baths area on Virgin Gorda - Bitter End Yacht Club on North Sound

Cooking on Board

Most charter boats are well-equipped with a full galley. Cooking on board is significantly cheaper than eating out and can be a fun group activity. Plan your meals before you leave and provision accordingly.
